Objective: I am eager to gain hands-on experience at the Pilot Plant to strengthen my understanding of food and agricultural processing systems. Through this opportunity, I hope to apply my classroom knowledge to real-world operations, learn from industry professionals, and contribute to ongoing innovation in sustainable food production.
Desired Field: I am most interested in the intersection of food processing and agricultural engineering, particularly how technology and sustainable practices can improve efficiency and product quality. I’m excited to explore how processing systems can be optimized to reduce waste, enhance safety, and create more sustainable food solutions for the future.
Projects: During my time in the FASTER program, I’ve worked on several hands-on projects that deepened my understanding of food processing. I used the cookie extruder to make Block I cookies and helped set up and run the tomato sauce line, gaining experience with equipment operation and process control. I also enjoyed observing early-stage projects and seeing the problem-solving and innovation that go into developing new processes.
Equipment Capabilities: I’ve become proficient with equipment such as the cookie extruder, tomato sauce processing line, pumps, and heat exchangers. I’ve also gained experience with standard processes including equipment setup and cleaning, product formulation, process monitoring, and quality and safety checks during production.
Relevant Skills: Relevant skills include process optimization, equipment operation, and troubleshooting within food and agricultural systems. I’ve completed coursework in thermodynamics, systems engineering, food chemistry, and biological process engineering. Additionally, I’ve gained hands-on training through the FASTER program and my agricultural and biological engineering studies, focusing on efficiency, safety, and sustainability in processing environments.
