Objective: Hello, my name is Isabella Chon, and I’m passionate about applying my growing expertise with cells and biology to collaboratively tackle complex challenges and contribute to impactful research breakthroughs in industry settings with meticulous data analysis. With a strong background in fermentation, bioprocessing, and other laboratory work, I aim to contribute to innovative research and project goals in dynamic team environments.
Desired Field: Bioprocessing, Food Production, or Pharmaceutical
Projects: During my time in the FASTER program, I’ve assisted IBRL’s fermentation specialists with their clients’ projects by effectively executing scaled-up fermentation experiments, managing fermentor operations, and troubleshooting issues to ensure successful outcomes. As a student technician, I have supported the technical development of scale-up fermentation projects by focusing on meticulous data collection and monitoring the biomass growth in active bioreactors (19L-1200L), while mentoring and delegating tasks to new student interns, contributing to their technical development, and helping them adjust to facility operations. I applied skills such as data analysis, problem-solving, collaboration, and aseptic laboratory techniques to accurately deliver results. Some projects focused on optimizing a client’s system performance, converting biomass into polymers utilized for everyday products, emulating a client’s expectations for exponentially growing biomass based on their procedures, and/or exploring new applications of upcoming machinery in the field of fermentation. Through these projects, I gained valuable experience in innovation, understanding industry standards, and how to effectively work independently and in teams to support research goals.
Equipment Capabilities: BioCommand, Bioreactors/Fermentation Tanks (19L-1200L), Autoclave machine, Microscope, pH calibration, Centrifuging, OD600, YSI, HPLC, Wet/Dry Cell Weight, Moisture Readings
Relevant Skills: Experimental Design, Gel Electrophoresis, PCR, Western Blot, ImageJ, RStudio, Microsoft Office, Assay Testing, Aseptic Techniques, Streak Plating, Problem-solving
