Objective: I am interested in a career in the biotechnology industry with a focus on sustainability. I aim to contribute to the use of bioprocessing to advance sustainable technologies that promote the well-being of the environment and the community.
Desired Field: I am interested in the field of biotechnology and specifically its applications in sustainability. Biotechnology can play an important role in increasing food production by providing alternative sources of energy and nutrients, as well as reducing food spoilage. It can also support the sustainability of the environment through innovations in water sanitation, biofuels, and the production of renewable and recyclable materials. I hope to contribute to advancing these technologies to help build a more sustainable future.
Projects: I have had experience in using precision fermentation to create polymers for biodegradable plastics and food alternatives.
Equipment Capabilities: I am proficient in preparing media for use in precision fermentation and analyzing samples using a spectrophotometer to determine optical density and preparing slides for visualization with a microscope.
Relevant Skills: Through various courses, I have gained experience in many lab techniques. In biology lab courses, I have worked with protein purification, Bradford assay, SDS-PAGE, western blot, fluorescence imaging, streak plates, spread plates, serial dilutions, aseptic technique, restriction digestion and analysis, gel electrophoresis, PCR, heat-shock transformation, plasmid cloning, and antibiotic selection. In chemistry lab courses, I have gained experience in spectrophotometry, IR spectroscopy analysis, mass spectrometry analysis, NMR analysis, acid-base extraction, simple distillation, and fractional distillation. Additionally, I am proficient in RCode and Microsoft Office. I have also developed strong science communication skills in molecular and cellular biology honors course where I collaborated with others to give presentations on scientific literature and worked with a team of students to develop and give a presentation on a plan to create a bioreactor to dechlorinate and filter microplastics from wastewater dispensed at industrial sites as a potential innovation to mitigate water pollution.
