The Food Science & Human Nutrition Pilot Processing Plant (FSHN-PPP) is a pilot plant facility focused on human and pet food technologies located at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. The facility was recently renovated with capacity to host classes, enable research, and partner with industry on a variety of projects and processes. The facility includes a 10,000 square-foot processing plant, product development kitchen, and considerable cold storage. Available utilities include high-pressure clean steam, process chill water, domestic water, compressed air, and 208V & 460V 3-phase electrical. Most equipment is on skids and casters for ease of moving, setting up, connecting, and disconnecting as needed. Our dock and fork truck also allow external equipment to be brought into the facility and easily integrated.
The facility features a wide variety of equipment capabilities including fruit & vegetable processing, sauces/purees, retort, pasteurization, flour milling, twin-screw extrusion, spray drying, and more.
